Overview
The SSG Trainer combines sit-to-stand functionality and parallel bars into one compact wall-mounted unit. It allows patients to begin standing and balance work safely and independently while saving valuable therapy space.
The SSG can be used for:
- Sit-to-stand training
- Standing balance exercises
- Gait and ambulation training
It accommodates both standard and bariatric wheelchairs, with adjustable height and width to fit patients from 5’2” to 6’4”.
Getting Started
Step 1: Prepare the Space
- Position the wheelchair directly in front of the SSG and lock the brakes.
- Make sure the knee pad is securely in place.
- Confirm that the floor area is clear of obstructions.
Step 2: Sit-to-Stand Function
- Have the patient scoot forward in the wheelchair so their feet are flat on the floor.
- The patient places their hands on the upper grip bar.
- As they begin to rise, the knee plate will provide stability and prevent forward movement.
- Once standing, the patient can change hand position to the lower grip for balance and endurance training.
- If they become fatigued, they can safely return to sitting.
Adjusting for Patient Height
On each side of the unit, you’ll find a plunger pin that controls the parallel bar height.
- Pull the plunger to raise or lower the bar to the desired height.
- Once in position, release the plunger and make sure it locks securely.
- The range accommodates patients from 5’2” to 6’4”.
Using the Parallel Bars
When transitioning from sit-to-stand training to gait work, the parallel bars can be installed directly onto the SSG frame.
- Lift the bar from its storage position.
- Insert it into the receiver on the side of the frame.
- Tighten the lower knob to secure the leg height.
- Tighten the upper knob to lock the bar in place.
- Repeat for the opposite side.
Once installed, you’ll have a sturdy set of parallel bars suitable for balance and gait exercises.
The SSG’s width can also be adjusted to accommodate bariatric wheelchairs. Simply loosen the outer knobs, extend the width, and retighten to secure.
Stowing the Parallel Bars
When not in use, the bars can be removed and stored to free up space in the therapy gym.
- Loosen the top and bottom knobs on each side.
- Pull each bar out of the receiver.
- Rotate and drop it into its designated storage position on the side of the unit.
- Verify all hardware is tightened and safely stowed.
This feature makes the SSG ideal for space-conscious facilities where every square foot counts.
Please Note
- The minimum ceiling height for safe operation is 8 feet.
- Always ensure that the bars and plunger pins are fully locked before use.
- The SSG should only be adjusted by trained therapy staff.
- Regularly check the rubber leg caps for grip and wear.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Wipe all surfaces after each session with a hospital-grade disinfectant.
- Inspect weekly for loose knobs, worn padding, or any signs of damage.
- Contact Therapeutic Industries for replacement parts or assistance with adjustments.
